Meniscal Tears

Getting Help for Meniscal Tears with Your Midtown Chiropractor at Rockefeller Health Medical

If you play sports or have an accident, one of the injuries that could develop is a meniscus tear. A meniscus tear has the potential to cause much pain and discomfort, but your Rockefeller Center Chiropractic office can help. If you're looking for chiropractic care, Rockefeller Health & Medical is the best place to go. We have an office that is open regularly in New York City and that would love to help you work through injuries to reach an improved level of health.

Woman suffering from neck pain What Are Meniscal Tears?

A meniscus tear is when the cartilage in the knee tears. In the knee, there are three bones that meet: The tibia, patella and femur. There are two pieces of cartilage between them that absorb shock. These pieces make up the meniscus. Although they are cartilage, they're rubbery and have the potential to tear. A tear happens in a few ways including radial, flap and bucket handle.

The tear typically happens suddenly, which means that meniscal tears aren't necessarily preventable. However, good alignment and circulation does help the body heal if a tear does occur. It's well-known that the outside part of the meniscus has access to rich supplies of blood, which makes it easier for tears in those areas to heal. Other areas may require manipulation to encourage better circulation. In some cases, a meniscal tear will require surgery due to no regular blood supply.

What Can Your Hell's Kitchen Chiropractor Do For You?

At your first exam, your chiropractor for Midtown West may suggest the RICE protocol, which means you need to rest, ice the injury, compress it and elevate it. After taking X-rays and determining the type of tear you have, our chiropractor can help build a plan for recovery.

Some treatments that may help include spinal readjustments, massage, physical therapy, acupuncture or sports medicine therapies. We offer each of these at our 10036 office as part of a patient's medical and treatment plan.
