Work Ergonomics
Prevent pain and maintain good spinal health with work ergonomics. Whether you sit at a desk or lift heavy loads regularly, failure to pay attention to ergonomics can result in pain. Seek treatment from our chiropractor at Rockefeller Health & Medical, serving the areas of Midtown East and West, Rockefeller Center, and Manhattan, NYC.
What is Ergonomics?
Ergonomics refers to designing an environment that is as efficient and safe as possible, which includes preventing injury to your back and spine during work.
At the Office
Sitting at a desk or in an office all day can wreak havoc on your spine. Make sure that your chair is the right height for your workspace, and use good posture when sitting for long periods of time. Keep things that you use frequently easily within reach, and don’t reach for things that are slightly out of your way—stand instead.
On Your Feet
If your job entails standing on your feet for hours, practice good posture and keep your core muscles tight. Stand closely to the objects that you lift, bending at your knees instead of your waist when possible. Make sure you have a good grip on items that you are lifting, and remember to breathe.
In Front of a Screen
If you sit in front of a computer, keep the screen adjusted to be around eye level and an arm’s length away. Keep your mouse in a spot that is easy to access, and try to keep wrists rigid and arms close to the body when typing. Keep the bright lights of a monitor, laptop, or task lamp to the side, not directly in your face and eyes.
Chiropractic Care Can Help
Chiropractic treatment can help with the pain and discomfort of a workplace that is not ergonomically friendly. Talk to your chiropractor or physician about ergonomics and how you could be compromising these principles at work.
